Reaching for the Skies
After completing my attempt at reaching for the stars in astrophotography, I thought it would be fun to try something closer to Earth and reach for the skies. I decided to buy a DJI Phantom 3 SE drone on Amazon and started flying without any experience. As cool as it was, I didn't know any of the maneuvers or rules of flying a drone. I then stopped flying for a while and decided to sell it. About a year later is when I started taking a better approach at aerial photography and began a course to obtain my drone pilot license along with watching videos of all of the different maneuvers and angles I could learn with a drone.
Around the same time I began the course is when I purchased the DJI Phantom 4 Pro drone and wow was that an upgrade! With 4k video, longer battery life, and intelligent flight mode, this drone was top-notch. After learning some of the maneuvers and features I was able to test them out and achieved the couple photos below. On January 28th, 2022 I took the FAA Remote Pilot Test, of course I passed! Now I am beginning to create a portfolio and gaining more flight hours when I can. I am very excited to try and make a career out of flying drones and using my footage as a helpful document to many clients out there since drones give many different perspectives of things. I am also interested in creating 3d models of structures and creating maps of certain areas, like what satellites get for Google maps, except with a drone it would be even more detailed with hundreds of photos which are merged in one. I can't wait to see where this path leads me and how it will grow my portfolio even more!
